Happy Birthday, Dana!
When Spain proved too difficult to do this year in the time we had available, I suggested we travel to a few other states on our bucket list. In particular, I made the mistake of mentioning Kansas. Well, you can just imagine Dana's reaction to that innocent idea. "You want to trade Spain for Kansas?!" is what I can print in a family-oriented blog.
Dear readers, needless to say, Kansas was quickly filed away for another day, and we decided, instead, to consider Costa Rica - closer, less expensive, but still a travel experience in a foreign land. After much researching and planning, the day has finally arrived. Last year on Dana's birthday, we were dining alonside(ish) George Clooney and Cindy Crawford. This year might not be quite that glamorous, but our first hours in Costa Rica are certainly demonstrating why the motto here is "Pura Vida."
The agenda for our trip is a night at the lovely Hotel Gran de Oro in San Jose, then off to Arenal for hiking, waterfalls, and what promises to be a spectacular active volcano. Next stop the Monteverde Cloud Forest, and then finally a few nights on the beach in Manuel Antonio, only to return to this hotel for our final night before we head to the airport. We have white water rafting, zip lines, and lots of relaxing on the horizon - couldn't be looking forward to it anymore!
